Objective:
- To create a retail packaging solution that allows customers to both view and remove the product without damaging the package itself.
Deliverable:
- A modified clamshell package with thermoformed plastic shells that are closed together with tabs on an E-flute hinge/back.
Challenges:
- Determining what thickness of plastic to use.
- Countering the webbing caused by the draw depth of the rear plastic shell.
Successes:
- Fabricated a wood mold for thermoforming.
- Created my very first packaging prototype using rudimentary thermoforming technology.
Potential Improvements:
- Prevent corrugated bowing by scoring the hinge instead of just creasing.
- Further develop the graphics to have a stronger presence.
